What the News Won’t Tell You About the January 6 Insurrection: op-ed
In light of the 1 year anniversary of the January 6 insurrection, many politicians and mainstream news sources have begun to speak out and remind the world about the attack on democracy. Right-wing news sources continue to dismiss or even deny the events claiming it was a psyop, or a psychological operation to convey information to audiences indirectly, to stain Donald Trump’s name. To the left, liberals continue to hyperfocus on the social aspect of the insurrection and focusing on the image it shows. What neither side of the spectrum will tell you is that the systematic problems in American society that go unaddressed have boiled up and exploded as seen on January 6, 2021.
On January 6, many high ranking liberals and Democrats gave speeches denouncing the attack such as President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. The optics in which out-of-touch liberals make a mockery of January 6, like Nancy Pelosi introducing the Hamilton cast to sing. These efforts by democrats to denounce the capitol riot and convince the people that this event was unacceptable shows how out of touch they truly are.
For a moment, picture yourself as an uneducated man living in middle to lower class America, while listening to the media, one side is telling you that the insurrection is a lie, you are a patriot and fighting for your freedoms, that the democrats are exaggerating (which they are, the insurrection was nowhere near the devastations that were 9/11 or Pearl Harbor), the liberals are coming for you; while the other side has the cast of Hamilton sing a song you’ve never heard of because you are too poor to afford tickets to musicals as you can barely afford your monthly rent.
NO CHANCE coming from middle-low class America would you ever become a democrat, you become a republican for life! Seeing this display just spews “elitists” from the democrats. This is because THEY ARE, and of course republican politicians as well are elitists, as they all attend liberal arts institutions. Republican politicians will just wear snakeskin boots and a cowboy hat to seem “just like you”.
If you come from middle-lower class America, you do not fear pedophile politicians or CRT (critical race theory) or Covid vaccines or ANTIFA, this is what the out-of-touch man on the TV is telling you to fear. What truly keeps you and your parents up every night is thinking, How am I going to afford college? Can I afford this month's rent? Can I ever buy a house or a car? Your economic future and securities are all uncertainties, this is the true fears of the American working class, these systematic issues are what liberals and conservatives continue to ignore and the working class has anger built up from being oppressed by class. This anger is misdirected by the media, to the right they tell you it was the elite left who stole your election, ultimately leading to the insurrection. The democrats instead pretend to care about your needs and get celebrities to sing a song to make you forget about it.
Neither party expresses their interest in solving the material problems that the people need, leading to misdirected anger and ultimately what caused the January 6 insurrection. If republicans continue fear mongering their supporters and democrats continue to not address material problems, insurrections and riots will continue to happen for years to come.
