About Burton

My name is Burton Litman. I am a Senior at the School of Advanced Studies in Miami Florida. I am a single child born and raised in a multiracial family. Growing up, there have always been conversations on politics and current events at my extended family gatherings.  As the youngest kid, I was always bored and never understood. Little would I know, years later it was the 2016 presidential election that first drew my attention to American politics. I was 10 years old, and it was quite interesting to watch the political commentators pointing to the red and blue map of America and explaining the candidate’s ideological differences. Fast forward to the Covid-19 pandemic, my freshman year was all virtual.  Being isolated at home like everyone else, I started to spend more time learning the impact of the pandemic on politics and economics, as millions of people have been deeply affected by the unprecedented economic atmosphere.  I found myself diving into the political spectrum by reading articles from various acclaimed media sources, learning economic theory, and listening to many political commentators.  As the 2020 presidential election approached, I became extremely involved and continuously followed coverage of the 2020 election and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the election.

Through self-learning and discovery, I am proud to consider myself a critical thinker who wishes to change the dogma of American politics and share my interest in politics with other young students. When speaking to friends about certain political topics, I realized that many of them were unaware of the modern political climate or only repeating those incorrect talking points that stemmed from their family's preconceived beliefs.  My desire to encourage critical thinking and to combat the extreme rise in misinformation from several new and established media outlets is what ultimately motivates me to reach out to the youth directly, in a manner that may be more enjoyable for teens to become informed.  The idea of Politics101 was created in an effort to form a media that is most suitable for teenagers before they are indoctrinated into the masses of America’s political propaganda.
